What’s your Winter Project?

Winter is now well and truly here in the UK. We had our first frost this week and coaching in an evening now requires a bobble hat! So now that the season is over what exactly are you going to work on to get ready for next year? For me this off-season will be focused on gaining extra yardage with my driver. I wouldn’t say that I am a short hitter but I am certainly not long by today’s standards. As courses from the back tees get longer we all need to move with the times, yes club and ball technology has helped, but if we can’t make the right swing we will not maximize our potential.

With a non-range ball I would expect to carry the golf ball 250 yards through the air. This is a good distance for my relatively slow swing speed of just under 100 mph. My goal by March 2014 is to reach the swing speeds of the PGA Tour. Their average speed is 112 mph, so I have got my work cut out.

To find these extra yards I am going to make 3 additions to my normal winter practice. I do not intend to do anything that you can’t do and I will continue to share my plan and progress over the winter.

Perform the Gravity Golf® Driver Drill 3 times per week
Focus 3 gym sessions a week on compound strength exercises
Stretch each evening with particular emphasis on my lower body
The Gravity Golf® Driver Drill consists of hitting 100 balls without any rest. At Carus Green we have automated tee’s so this only takes approximately 15 minutes.

The gym exercises that I am going to be doing don’t require any specialist equipment and the stretching will take just 20 minutes at the end of the day.

So what it your plan? I am helping more and more golfers from all over the UK put together quality purposeful practice plans that include exercise, stretching and mental awareness. Please do Contact Me if you would like to explore maximising your potential over the winter months.

I will do regular updates on the blog along with a little more information on the exercises and drills that I am doing so please make sure you check back regularly.
